Frequently Asked Questions - Wax/Resin Ink Ribbons

What is the difference between Outside Wound (OW) and Inside Wound (IW)?

This refers to which side of the ribbon carries the ink. Outside Wound has the ink on the exterior of the roll (common for Zebra and TSC), while Inside Wound has it on the interior (required for many Honeywell and some Sato models). Using the wrong winding can prevent printing and damage your machine.

Can I use wax/resin ribbons on plastic labels?

Yes. Wax/resin is a good choice for synthetic materials like polypropylene. It provides the necessary adhesion that standard wax cannot achieve on non-porous surfaces.

Will these ribbons fit my Zebra desktop printer?

Absolutely. We stock shorter 74m rolls specifically designed for desktop printers with smaller media compartments, as well as 110mm and 64mm widths.

Are these ribbons smudge-proof?

They are significantly more smudge-resistant than wax. While they can be scratched with heavy intent or harsh chemicals, they easily withstand the friction of shipping, handling, and moisture.

How do I know which width of ribbon to order?
