Paper Thermal Transfer Labels for iDPRT iT4X and iT4P Printers

The paper thermal transfer labels in this category have been selected for use with iDPRT iT4X and iT4P label printers when operating in thermal transfer mode.

Compatible rolls can have 12.5mm (½"), 25mm (1") or 38mm (1½") cores and a maximum outside diameter of 127mm (5"). The maximum media width for this category is 118mm.

What Are Paper Thermal Transfer Labels?

Paper thermal transfer labels are printed using a thermal transfer ribbon. Heat from the printer’s printhead transfers ink from the ribbon onto the label surface, creating clear text, graphics, barcodes and QR codes.

Unlike direct thermal labels, thermal transfer paper does not have a heat-sensitive surface and cannot be printed correctly without a ribbon.

Thermal transfer printing generally produces a more durable and longer-lasting image than direct thermal printing. Paper thermal transfer labels offer an economical choice when durable printing is required but the additional resistance of a polypropylene, polyester or other synthetic label is unnecessary.

Compatible Label-Roll Dimensions

Labels in this category are selected according to the following requirements:

  • Printing method: thermal transfer
  • Label material: paper
  • Maximum print width at 203dpi: 108mm
  • Maximum print width at 300dpi: 106mm
  • Overall media width: 25mm to 118mm
  • Roll core diameter: 12.5mm (½"), 25mm (1") or 38mm (1½")
  • Maximum outside roll diameter: 127mm (5")
  • Thermal transfer ribbon required: yes

The overall media width includes both the label and its backing paper. Because the backing paper is normally slightly wider than the label itself, customers should check the complete media width rather than measuring only the face of the label.

Although the printers accept media up to 118mm wide, the printed design must remain within the maximum print width for the printer’s resolution.

Applications for Paper Thermal Transfer Labels

Depending on the paper and adhesive selected, these labels can be used for:

  • Product and packaging labels
  • Barcode and QR-code labels
  • Stock and inventory identification
  • Warehouse and racking labels
  • Pallet and logistics labels
  • Retail and price labels
  • Batch and date-code labels
  • Manufacturing and production labels
  • Office and general-purpose identification

Choosing a Thermal Transfer Ribbon

A compatible thermal transfer ribbon must be installed when printing these labels.

Wax ribbons are commonly used with standard paper labels and provide reliable print quality for general barcode, product, retail and warehouse applications.

Wax-resin ribbons may be more suitable for coated paper labels or applications requiring improved resistance to rubbing, moisture and frequent handling.

The ribbon should be compatible with the label surface and slightly wider than the label. This helps ensure complete print coverage and protects the printhead from direct contact with the backing paper.

Choosing the Correct Labels

Before ordering, check the label width, label length, complete backing-paper width, core diameter and outside roll diameter.

The overall media width must be between 25mm and 118mm. Rolls can have 12.5mm, 25mm or 38mm cores but must not exceed 127mm in outside diameter.
