Direct Thermal Labels for the iDPRT SP420 Printer

Our compatible iDPRT SP420 labels use heat-sensitive direct thermal material, allowing the printer to produce clear text, barcodes and graphics without requiring ink, toner or a thermal transfer ribbon.

Unlike the SP410 and SP460BT models, the SP420 does not use an external roll holder. Labels for this printer must therefore be supplied on a 25mm core for loading into its internal media compartment. The maximum permitted outside roll diameter is 127mm.

The printer accepts media widths between 50mm and 118mm, including the label and its backing paper. The maximum media width for this category is 118mm.

Compatible Label-Roll Specifications

Direct thermal labels in this category are selected according to the following printer requirements:

  • Printing method: Direct thermal
  • Maximum print width: 108mm
  • Media width: 50mm to 118mm
  • Label-roll core: 25mm
  • Maximum outside roll diameter: 127mm
  • Media supply: Internal roll compartment

What Are Direct Thermal Labels?

Direct thermal labels have a heat-sensitive surface that darkens when heated by the printer’s thermal printhead. This creates a fast and economical printing process without the additional cost or inconvenience of a ribbon.

These labels are commonly used for:

  • Shipping and courier labels
  • Address and dispatch labels
  • Barcode and QR code labels
  • Parcel and pallet identification
  • Stock and inventory control
  • Warehouse picking labels
  • Retail and price labels
  • Batch and date labels
  • Food-rotation labels
  • General office labelling

Standard and Top-Coated Direct Thermal Labels

Standard direct thermal paper labels are suitable for general shipping, warehouse, retail and identification applications.

Top-coated direct thermal labels have an additional protective surface that can provide improved resistance to moisture, oils, handling and environmental exposure. They are suitable for applications where standard direct thermal paper may not offer sufficient protection.

Direct thermal print can gradually fade when exposed to heat, strong sunlight or certain chemicals. It is therefore best suited to short- and medium-term labelling applications.
